Luftwaffe HBT Summer Tunic

A unique Luftwaffe Summer Tunic for an all-round mid & Late-war Impression.

The Luftwaffe HBT tunic and HBT trousers have been on the wish list of many re-enactors and collector alike. Being very particular garments, they are very comfortable to wear during the hot summer days. The linen used in these Luftwaffe HBT uniforms is very light and has the cooling factor that was much appreciated by Luftwaffe Field division, Fallschirmjager and Flak Crew.

Based on the typical Luftwaffe Pattern, The Luftwaffe Herring-Bone Twill Uniform is a high-quality uniform set that consists of all the details of the originals, from which these were copied. The 6-button Feldbluse also features the fake french cuffs, large chest pleated pockets. The liner is made from the synthetic late war rayon and has short straps for belt hooks. The pebbled buttons consist of the Typical German S-ring type which is easily removable and are painted blue. The non-visible buttons for the dressing pocket and cuff are made of late-war dish metal buttons.

The jacket does not come with any insignia. Breast eagles and shoulder straps can be purchased separately.

Historical Info about the Luftwaffe Herring-Bone Twill tunic and HBT trousers

Cotton was not not easily available within the Third Reich early of the war. The blockade by the allies affected importation of Cotton from South America and it was only until the Wehrmacht advanced into Russia that there could be good supply of Cotton. But as the borders of the Reich were closing in on Germany, cotton was at a premium and by 1944 it was only available from Surplus stocks in France and Italy. It was at this time that Summer HBT uniforms started were needed for the Summer periods. As the war progressed, the HBT mix was very linen dominant and later on, these were made entirely from linen.

Although the Luftwaffe had their HBT tunics in Blue-Gray, by 1943, an order was issued that only green fabric was to be produced, and effectively, reed green was produced for both Luftwaffe and Heer Summer Combat Uniforms.
