Gebirgsjäger putties (Wickel-gamaschen)

German Gebirgsjäger puttees, also known as Wickel-gamaschen or leg wraps, were standard gear mainly associated with mountain troops. They were also issued with low boots to keep out snow and dust.

Our reproductions are based on several period pairs, made with elastic knit fabric that provides a tighter fit and better protection against the elements compared to conventional and later woollen woven types. Many wartime brands that sold this type of putty were "Mars-Gamaschen", "E.W.Z. marke zeus-k" and "Franz Gabler". These are part of the "Christian von Wohl" superior line of reproductions.

They are sold as a pair with a labelled left and right strap to allow for better alignment with the laces and for efficient closure on the outside. A metal buckle is fitted to the end of the strap to provide flexible tension and prevent the strap from coming undone.
