Historical Information about the M38 Splinter-B helmet cover

Following the early jumps of 1940, the m38 helmet cover in green was produced. The fabric used was not that of the smock, but a plain green or olive cotton made from lesser quality fabric. Towards the end of 1940, Splinter-B helmet covers with hooks also started being produced, but the green helmet covers could be observed being used by German Paratroopers throughout the war. It wasn't uncommon for helmet covers to be worn alone, without helmets as sun protection.
