Luftwaffe Greatcoat (Mantel)

What's my Size?

Definitely keeps the cold out.

It has thick wool, exactly like that used in the Fliegerbluse. Based on original patterns, this Mantel is a lifesaver for the re-enactor who wants to do it right. It is made to give you added comfort in winter, whilst also completing your tropical Luftwaffe or Fallschirmjäger impression.

As copied from an original piece, this greatcoat features two columns of six front closure buttons in a blue-grey finish. The inner lining is also identical to an original, made from cotton twill. It also features metal hooks at the neckline. Wide cuffs, diagonal hip pockets. Inner chest pocket.

No corners were cut in the production of this garment. Its thick wool ensures that it will serve the wearer well in cold and winter climates like the original has for many Luftwaffe troops.

What insignia is included with this Luftwaffe Greatcoat?

This blue greatcoat comes with golden-yellow piped shoulder straps, but we offer a wide variety of Shoulder boards for Luftwaffe Greatcoat, separately.

Historical Info about the Luftwaffe Greatcoat

Worn by all ranks, the greatcoat remained the same throughout the war, more or less. This coat was eventually used in tropical regions, such as Italy and North Africa. Unlike the Army, the Luftwaffe did not issue a Tropical greatcoat, thus the standard blue-gray greatcoat was used instead.

The Luftwaffe issue greatcoats did come with collar tabs but were against regulations to sew braid (tresse) on the neck. These collar tabs were allowed until September 1942 (with the exception of non-front-line guard units).

Used in which Front?

  • Normandy 1944
  • Italian Campaign
  • North African Campaign
  • Eastern Front
  • Any front

Used by which division?

  • Luftwaffe Field Divisions
  • Hermann Göring Division
  • Fallschirmjäger
  • Flak units
  • Any Luftwaffe personnel
